The Ontario Federation of Labour will be holding its 11th Biennial Convention in the Grand Ballroom at the Sheraton Centre, 123 Queen Street West, Toronto.  The convention will commence on Monday, November 21 at 9:30 a.m. and continue until Friday, November 25, 2011.

Registration will take place at the hotel Sunday, November 20 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. and from 7:30 a.m. Monday, November 21.

The credentials have been forwarded to the local union’s financial secretaries.  The deadline for receiving credentials is November 7, 2011.  Late filing will result in your delegates not being seated by the Credentials Committee.

The OFL Executive Board has set the registration fee at $300.00. For your information, the final cost of the 2009 Convention was $301,451.00.

Information on the labour council and equity caucuses will be sent directly to the delegate upon receipt of registration form.  Caucuses are for the purpose of electing representatives to the OFL Executive Board (see OFL Constitution Article V Sections 1.1 and 1.2), and they are open to self-identified members of the particular designated group who are convention delegates.

The convention will be smoke free.

All requests for collections for strikes underway during convention must be given to the Secretary-Treasurer in writing.  These will be discussed and decided by the Executive Board and a collection will be taken prior to noon on Wednesday, November 23, 2011.

In order to avoid congestion at the top and bottom of the escalator, campaign literature and pamphlets may only be placed on the tables in the convention hall.  However, this must take place outside regular scheduled convention hours, ie. before 9:30 a.m. or during the lunch break.

The OFL will provide child care at the convention from Monday, November 21 to Friday, November 25.  See the child care registration form for further details.  Please return this form no later than October 24, 2011.

Accommodations for the convention are at the Sheraton Centre Toronto.  Guestroom rates are $215.00 single/double occupancy per room per night, plus taxes.  This convention, we are pleased to let you know that we have again secured the services of WE Travel for hotel reservations.  Reservations can be done through WE Travel, the official housing agent for the Ontario Federation of Labour. Reservations can be made on-line at http://www.wetravel.net http://www.wetravel.net/ or via telephone Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., toll free at (888) 676-7747 or direct at (613) 232-9908.

The deadline for receiving resolutions is October 24, 2011.  Please remember that each resolution is limited to 150 words.

The OFL will assist delegates with disabilities to have easier access to the convention proceedings and facilities.  Convention material will be available on the OFL website (http://www.ofl.ca) by Tuesday, November 15, 2011.  Every effort has been made to make the convention as accessible as possible.  To address particular needs of delegates the Accessibility Needs form along with the delegate’s credential should be forwarded to the OFL by October 24, 2011.  The OFL will endeavour to make the appropriate arrangements to address the needs of individual delegates.

For further information, call the OFL at 1-800-788-0227 or visit our website at http://www.ofl.ca.
