London Day of Action, Saturday, Jan. 21, 11 a.m. TO ALL AFFILIATES: ALL OUT TO SUPPORT CAW LOCAL 27
We are now only nine days away from the massive action in London to support CAW Local 27 and I am urging you to get your members out to this critical event. Buses are filing up and thousands are already confirming their participation but we must ensure it’s a huge turnout given the nature of the attack.
Electro-Motive, a subsidiary of U.S. industrial giant Caterpillar Inc., wants to strong-arm workers into a pay cut of over 50%, dropping hourly wages from $35 to $16.50! It has also leveled devastating cuts to benefits and pensions at the members of CAW Local 27 even though the company has enjoyed billions in profit and a 20 percent boost to production over the last year.
We must come together to defend these workers and stop Caterpillar dead in its tracks. This is our year to militantly push back against every greedy employer – whether in the private or public sector – that is attacking good jobs and retirement security for current and future employees.
It is a pivotal moment. I am requesting that you mobilize your members to your maximum capability. Please fill those buses and get your members out in big numbers.
11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 21, Victoria Park, the site of last year’s Occupy London camp
